Suspected kidnappers attack 3 buses, abduct passengers in Kogi

Suspected kidnappers targeted three buses carrying unknown numbers of passengers on the Itobe-Achigili-Anyigba highway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday, August 9, 2026, according to local sources. The attacks occurred within two hours of each other, approximately in the same location on the highway. The first bus, a Hummer owned by a popular mass transit company, was intercepted around 4pm en route to Abuja from its eastern region park.

The second attack involved a Sharon and a Sienna commercial bus traveling inter-state around 6pm. All occupants were reportedly ferried into the bush after running into barricades set by the gunmen. Cellphones were found near one of the buses and handed over to security operatives. A joint security operation involving the army, police, local vigilantes, and hunters was mobilized to rescue the victims and apprehend the abductors. The Kogi state police command's spokesperson has yet to confirm the incident.
