Subsidy removal: Give account of revenue Nigerians lost to inflation – Rufai Oseni blasts NRS boss Adedeji

Arise Television's Rufai Oseni has criticized the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Executive Chairman, Adedeji, for his comments on the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu. Adedeji, speaking on Sunday Politics, claimed that the removal of the subsidy would have cost the country N53 trillion and that the naira-to-dollar exchange rate would have reached N3,500 per dollar without Tinubu's intervention.

He also noted that monthly allocations to states had increased by 530 percent to N4.5 trillion from approximately N700 billion.

In response, Oseni took to X, stating that Adedeji should provide the revenue Nigerians lost to inflation, which was 15.91 percent in June 2026. Oseni argued that Adedeji's claim about the subsidy costs should be balanced with the revenue lost due to inflation. He questioned how Adedeji could justify the subsidy removal without also considering the financial impact of rising inflation on Nigerians.
