선관위 국조특위 ‘재검표’ 일정 놓고 또 충돌

The ruling election commission's special committee on national affairs (국조특위) faced a clash over the scheduled "re-examination of 2.47 million votes from the Pyeongchang Park handball venue on June 3" on October 10. The Democratic United Party demanded that the re-examination be held on the 18th, as originally agreed upon with the opposition parties last month, but the New Spirit Party opposed, stating that re-examination should only be conducted following a special investigation by the Election Management Agency.

The Democratic United Party's politicians argued that the "re-examination issue was being politicized" and urged for a vote to proceed. New Spirit Party Chair Pyo Chung-sung expressed concern over the lack of a re-examination plan from New Spirit Party politicians and called for accountability. The parties agreed on a preliminary re-examination date of June 18, but New Spirit Party politicians insisted that the re-examination could only proceed after the special investigation by the Election Management Agency.

The New Spirit Party further argued that the public ballots could be contaminated if they were examined before the investigation. As negotiations failed, the New Spirit Party's vice-chairperson demanded an apology from New Spirit Party Chair and requested the committee adjourn. Meanwhile, the chief of the central Election Management Agency dismissed accusations of fraud and stated that the issue was not a part of the committee's jurisdiction.
