In South Chungcheong Province, a protest march against the transmission line for the 'Yongin Semiconductor Industrial Complex' was also held, with participants calling it a "power colony".

South Chungcheong's "Gwangju-Jeollabuk-jeon Chungcheong High-voltage Transmission Line Protests" continued their push this 10th day as they reached the province. The nationwide mobilization, named "Review of the Gwangju-Jeollabuk-jeon High-voltage Transmission Line and Protests Against the Construction of High-voltage Transmission Poles" (hereinafter the Nationwide Action), held a kickoff ceremony for the regional segment of the nationwide rally from Gwangju-Jeollabuk-jeon to Gwangju-Kyunghyang.

Participants included the "Chungcheong High-voltage Transmission Pole Abandoned Policy Committee" and others. They demanded that the government reject a more extensive high-voltage transmission line for the benefit of "Chungcheong [province]," arguing that it would transform rural areas into a "transitional power colony of the metropolitan area."

The Nationwide Action criticized the fact that Chungcheong already has over 4,000 high-voltage transmission poles, questioning whether such a concentration constitutes "balanced energy development." They highlighted that, despite the construction of numerous high-voltage transmission lines to deliver electricity to the metropolitan area, the transmission penetration rate in Chungcheong is only in the 1% range, the lowest in the nation.

The Nationwide Action urged the government to reconsider the entire high-voltage transmission line project and make energy localization the fundamental principle of national power grid policy, ensuring that power producers and consumers share the benefits and receive fair compensation. They also called for the establishment of a social dialogue mechanism where the government, experts, and citizens collaborate in formulating national power grid policies.

Nationwide Action began its journey from Jangheung on July 30th, passing through North Chungcheong and Daejeon before arriving in Chungcheong on this 10th day. By May 14th, they plan to hold regional actions in all 11 Chungcheong cities and counties, including Busan, Jeonju, Gwangju, and more.
