Security teams recover more than 700 stolen livestock in Marsabit, Isiolo

Security forces have recovered over 700 goats, sheep and other livestock after multiple raids in Marsabit and Isiolo counties, as authorities step up efforts to apprehend suspected bandits. In Marsabit County, 470 goats and sheep were rescued on August 9, 2026, following a raid in Loiyangalani Sub-County's Galgumbe area. Pursuing the suspected attackers, a multi-agency team forced them to abandon the animals and flee into the Ruai Hills.

Law enforcement operations continue in the region as officers seek to locate additional stolen livestock.

The National Police Service (NPS) lauded the multi-agency security team for its swift response and coordination, which facilitated the successful recovery of the goats and sheep. The agency urged the public to report any suspicious or criminal activities to support the fight against livestock theft and other crimes.

In another operation, Bubisa Police Station and Shurr Police Post recovered nine stolen animals – five donkeys and four cattle – in the Lalesa area. The animals were reportedly taken from Loglogo. The recovered livestock were held at Shurr Police Post until identification and eventual return to their rightful owners.

In Isiolo North Sub-County, a multi-agency security patrol team recovered 249 sheep and goats following a raid at Malka Boji water point on August 8, 2026. The animals, stolen by armed bandits targeting a local resident's livestock, were intercepted and apprehended in the Losesia area in Samburu East Sub-County. The recovered animals were taken to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) camp in Gotu for safekeeping.

Authorities are coordinating the identification and handover of the animals to their rightful owners. Security patrols have been intensified in the affected areas as officers pursue the suspected bandits and work towards recovering any remaining stolen livestock.
