Safaricom launches new numbers: Here are the prefixes customers can get

Safaricom has introduced new mobile number prefixes to expand its range of numbers available to customers. The new prefixes consist of 0118, 0119, 0140, 0141, 0142, 0143, 0180, 0181, and 0182. This update was announced on August 10, 2026, by Peter Ndegwa, the CEO of Safaricom PLC. The company stated that these new ranges are now accessible at Safaricom shops and authorized dealer outlets across the country.

In a statement released on X, Safaricom expressed excitement about the new number ranges, saying, "Fresh number, fresh start!" Customers can now choose from these prefixes, providing more options for staying connected with the people and moments that matter. The new prefixes are available through Safaricom's retail outlets, giving customers the flexibility to select a number beginning with one of the newly introduced prefixes.

This announcement signifies an expansion of Safaricom's mobile services, reflecting the growing demand for connectivity. Mobile numbers remain central to services such as calls, messaging, mobile money, and digital services offered by the company. Safaricom emphasized the importance of protecting personal identification information and security credentials when acquiring and using mobile services.

The company reiterated its reminder that customers should keep their M-Pesa PIN confidential, advising them to say, "PIN YAKO SIRI YAKO!"

The rollout of these new prefixes aligns with the ongoing trend among mobile operators to introduce additional number ranges to accommodate the increasing number of subscribers and the growing demand for telecommunications services.
