Raw sugar equals 10-month high, cocoa and coffee fall

Raw sugar futures on ICE equaled the prior session's 10-month high on Monday, as lower exports from Brazil tightened supplies, according to wire material. The price of raw sugar dropped 0.2% to 16.41 cents per lb at 1040 GMT, after reaching a 10-month high of 16.50 cents on Friday. The market was primarily supported by expectations of a decline in EU production due to recent hot and dry weather.

Additionally, a year-on-year decrease in Brazilian exports has contributed to tightening the market. Speculators reduced their bearish bets on raw sugar ICE U.S. futures in the week leading up to August 4, as reported by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Friday. White sugar prices, on the other hand, rose by 0.1% to $504 a metric ton, marking the highest level since May 2025.

ICE London cocoa prices fell 1.05% to £4,239 a ton, with dealers noting ample supplies and a substantial global surplus in the current 2025/26 season. However, below-average rains, overcast skies, and a series of cold weather conditions last week raised concerns about the development of the September-to-February main crop in Ivory Coast's cocoa-growing regions.

New York cocoa prices declined by 0.6% to $5,857 a ton. Coffee prices, particularly ICE Arabica coffee, decreased by 2.4% to $3.2745 per lb. Market participants attributed the decline to concerns about weak demand, although the market remained supported by the potential impact of El Nino weather conditions on production.
