Ram temple donation row: SC urged to adjourn hearing on pleas due to unavailability of SG

The Supreme Court has agreed to consider postponing the hearing on several cases demanding a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, was informed that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Uttar Pradesh government, is currently in the United Nations attending a function.

The bench inquired if the cases are scheduled for hearing, to which the lawyer confirmed that items 30-33 are pending. The court has agreed to review the request next week. On July 27, the court took note of setting up a four-member SIT headed by IGP Kiran S to investigate the alleged misappropriation of donations at the temple.

The bench had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to include a forensic auditor in the probe team, emphasizing the need for transparency and remedial actions.
