Pritzker and Trump go after Big Oil. For their own political purposes

On Wednesday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker penned a letter addressed to the CEOs of seven prominent oil companies, accusing them of profiteering from the ongoing war in Iran. The governor argued that these companies were capitalizing on the turmoil in the Middle East to reap enormous profits from hardworking families and businesses in Illinois.

Pritzker urged the oil giants to return their excess profits to the state's consumers, stating that it was their responsibility to provide relief from the soaring gas prices. He cited the recent surge in average gas prices in Illinois, which have increased by nearly a third since the outbreak of the Iran War in February.

Interestingly, the same narrative is being echoed by President Donald Trump, who recently told reporters that Exxon and Chevron were "making too much money." Trump's remarks align with Pritzker's stance, as they both advocate for reduced oil company profits and lower gas prices for consumers. The move, however, appears to be more about political strategy than genuine concern for the public interest.

Both Pritzker and Trump are leveraging the issue to appeal to voters who are struggling with the impact of rising gas prices, while shifting the responsibility away from their own administration's role in the situation.
