PPP denounces DP lawmaker's proposal to turn buses into youth housing

The main opposition People Power Party (PPP) has harshly denounced a ruling party lawmaker's proposal to transform old buses into housing for young people, branding it an irresponsible idea that belittles the public. The criticism follows Democratic Party (DP) Representative Hwang Hee's announcement of the idea on Facebook, citing the use of houseboats in the Netherlands as inspiration.

Hwang's post drew immediate backlash, with PPP leader Jang Dong-hyeok condemning the proposal during a party meeting, stating that it is "nothing more than a barrage of nonsense that ridicules young people and mocks the public."

PPP chief spokesperson Choi Bo-yun further criticized the idea in a previous commentary, describing it as a "bizarre" notion that highlights the Lee Jae Myung administration's failure in housing policy and its lack of understanding of young people's realities. She emphasized that the government's proposal, with its lack of capacity to provide real solutions for urban housing supply, is a mockery of young Koreans' lives.

Other lawmakers have echoed the criticism, urging the government to develop feasible plans to increase housing supply for the youth. Hwang later removed the post, about two hours after it was initially shared, amid the backlash and later claimed that the proposal was merely a personal opinion and not representative of the DP's official position.
