Police review CCTV footage to track man who set woman on fire

In Kuala Lumpur, police are scrutinizing closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings to locate and apprehend a man who allegedly set a 62-year-old woman ablaze yesterday. Superintendent Jasni Zolpa, acting district police chief of Sentul, disclosed that investigators are scrutinizing footage from the vicinity to delineate the suspect's activities preceding and following the assault.

The motive behind the attack and the suspect's identity are yet to be determined. The victim, a counter attendant at a nearby outlet, is currently in critical but stable condition, receiving medical treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The incident, which transpired at 8 a.m., left the woman with burns covering approximately 50% of her body.

Police allege that the assailant doused the victim with a liquid suspected to be petrol before setting her alight. Initial probes revealed that the victim had no known adversaries and had not been subjected to any threats prior to the attack. Forensic experts from the Kuala Lumpur police have gathered DNA samples and other relevant material from the scene to bolster the investigation.

A dedicated operation has been initiated to track down the suspect, with the case being handled under Section 326 of the Penal Code. Kepong member of parliament, Lim Lip Eng, has offered a RM5,000 reward for credible information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator. He emphasized that tips on the incident at Taman Pusat Kepong must be credible and directly result in the suspect's apprehension.
