Police recover 470 stolen livestock in Marsabit operation

NAIROBI, Kenya - A joint security operation in Marsabit County has successfully recovered 470 goats and sheep that were stolen in a previous raid, according to a report on July 10. The animals were taken from the Galgumbe area of Loiyangalani Sub-County, and it was only after the attackers fled, under pressure from a multi-agency team, that the livestock were recovered.

The National Police Service (NPS) disclosed that the swift response from the police and other agencies prompted the fleeing suspects to abandon the stolen animals and take refuge in the challenging Ruai Hills. Following the successful recovery, additional security operations have been launched in the region to apprehend the suspected bandits, restore peace, and retrieve any remaining stolen livestock.

The NPS affirmed the anti-criminal team's commendable coordination and prompt action, which led to the successful operation. The reported incident is part of a larger challenge of livestock theft and banditry plaguing certain areas of northern Kenya, where the terrain poses difficulties in tracking suspects and recovering stolen animals.

Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and report any suspicious or criminal activities to their nearest police station or via the Service’s toll-free reporting channels.
