Police neutralise three suspected kidnappers after Ogun students’ rescue

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the deaths of three suspected kidnappers involved in the abduction of Gateway ICT Polytechnic students in Ogun State. The force's Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this on Sunday, detailing recent successful operations by the police and other security agencies nationwide. According to Iniedu, the students were rescued unharmed after the security teams mounted significant pressure on the kidnappers.

The police and Department of State Services (DSS) tracked the suspects to their hideout, leading to a shootout where three kidnappers were killed and others were injured. Six students who were abducted at Ipara were later released without injuries. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, three mobile phones, and N2.3 million during the operation.

The State Criminal Investigation Department has started a thorough investigation to uncover the full details of the abduction and identify any additional suspects. This incident comes after Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun promised that criminal elements would not go unpunished in his state. Abiodun praised the collaboration of various security forces, including the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters, in rescuing the students.

The Governor also credited the use of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance, which proved crucial in the successful rescue operation.
