Police arrest suspected kidnapper in Bauchi, recover motorcycle, phone

On Friday, August 7, 2026, in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the police apprehended a 30-year-old man, Abdulmumini Sarki, suspected of involvement in criminal conspiracy and kidnapping. Sarki, hailing from Ziriyalo Hamlet, near Tubule Village, was captured by Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters operatives around 9:00 p.m. on intelligence-led surveillance.

SP Nafiu Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer, reported that Sarki had been previously declared a wanted individual for the alleged offenses. The arrest came following credible intelligence, leading to the seizure of a Boxer motorcycle with registration number GME 224WW, engine number 34043X, and chassis number 62032. Additionally, an Itel keypad mobile phone with both Glo and MTN SIM cards was recovered from the suspect.

The suspect is currently in custody, and the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation. Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, emphasized the police's unwavering commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state. He also called upon the public to assist with providing any useful information that could aid in preventing and investigating such incidents.

The police have assured that the investigation would continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offense and to bring any culpable individuals to justice.
