PN-BN talks on Melaka polls will exclude Bersatu, says Takiyuddin

PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan stated that Perikatan Nasional (PN) talks with Barisan Nasional (BN) to organize the Melaka state election will not include Bersatu. He mentioned that discussions were yet to begin but would occur soon, as reported by Berita Harian. The negotiations might differ from those in Negeri Sembilan due to variations in state assemblies and seat distribution.

For instance, PN does not have any seats in the Melaka state assembly but holds parliamentary seats in the state. The talks will focus on factors like retaining 20 or 21 seats, including the Rembia state seat, which shifted to PAS.

Tensions between Bersatu and PAS escalated after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that Bersatu was no longer a PN member, an allegation dismissed by PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. Takiyuddin confirmed that PN was ready to address any inquiries from the Registrar of Societies regarding PAS' alleged violations of PN's constitution and Supreme Council decisions, such as denying Bersatu's rights as a component party.

When questioned about reports of Pakatan Harapan (PH) engaging in talks with Melaka BN, Takiyuddin stated he had no information on the matter. He advised that the issue has not arisen yet and that Umno would need to be consulted if it proves true. PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil mentioned that PH had held several discussions with BN regarding a potential pact for the Melaka polls, which are anticipated by the end of the year.

The state PKR chief, Adam Adli, reportedly communicated directly with state BN chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh to discuss seat allocations for the state polls.
