PN-BN talks on Melaka polls to exclude Bersatu

KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional is set to engage in talks with Barisan Nasional for seat allocation in the upcoming Melaka state election, excluding Bersatu. PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed that negotiations have not commenced yet but both parties have agreed in principle to discuss the matter soon. The talks may differ from those in Negri Sembilan due to variations in state assembly seats and parliamentary representation.

Takiyuddin highlighted that the distribution of seats, including Rembia, would be a key point of discussion. He also doubted reports of Pakatan Harapan holding informal talks with Melaka BN, stating he has no information on the matter. BN's PKR chairman, Adam Adli Abd Halim, confirmed that no formal negotiations have taken place, but informal communication between the parties is ongoing.

Takiyuddin emphasized that cooperation between BN and PN in the Negri Sembilan election is backed by a written agreement signed by both coalitions' top leaders, including PN chairman Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and BN chairman Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The agreement secured two executive council posts and the deputy speaker's post. Takiyuddin stated that the understanding between the parties would be upheld unless formally terminated, expressing confidence in its continuation till the state and general elections in the interest of ummah unity.
