PKR’s Wong Chen resigns as Subang MP

Pakatan Ransangan Rakyat (PKR) member Wong Chen has announced his resignation as Subang MP, according to a Facebook post on the same day. In the post, Wong confirmed that he met with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul last Wednesday to submit his resignation letter, which officially takes effect at 5pm today. The timing of his resignation was to provide parliamentary officers with a three-day window to prepare for the impending vacancy in Subang's parliamentary seat.

Wong and Johari had reportedly agreed on a "gentleman's arrangement" to refrain from disclosing any details until today.

Wong also revealed that he and Johari had agreed not to release any additional information publicly until today's announcement. He further stated that the PKR party would discontinue using the honorific title "Yang Berhormat" in all future correspondence by next month. Wong had planned to hold a press conference on Wednesday at 11am to address further concerns or questions.

Just prior to announcing his resignation, Wong posted a 15-second video on Facebook showing him packing a stack of books into a box. Wong is one of three PKR MPs who recently faced restrictions on accessing the MyKhas portal, a platform that administers special funding for constituencies. Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung were also barred from the portal.

Lee Chean Chung had questioned the reasons behind his own exclusion. Both Wong Chen and the other two affected MPs attended a May event celebrating the launch of the Bersama party, which was founded by former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
