Phillies place reliever Caleb Kilian on injured list with left oblique strain

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed reliever Caleb Kilian on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain ahead of their Monday series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals. Kilian was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a trade at the deadline, along with outfielder Luis Arraez. He has a 4-7 record with a 4.91 ERA for both the Phillies and Giants this season.

Kilian, a right-hander, made his last appearance on Saturday in Toronto, but strained his left oblique while throwing his final pitch. Phillies interim manager Dan Mattingly described the injury as moderate but did not provide a projected return date. "Losing a reliever from our pen is disappointing," Mattingly stated, adding that Kilian's absence is also a setback for him.

Since reporting back on Tuesday, Kilian has pitched four times in six days. He joins a total of 10 Phillies relievers who have been placed on the injured list this season. Chase Shugart, a right-hander, has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and has a 2-1 record with a 4.93 ERA in 33 games for the Phillies this season.
