Person of interest taken in for questioning over Reiger Park shooting

A person of interest, identified as a known gang member and leader, has been taken into police custody for questioning in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Friday night in Reiger Park, located east of Johannesburg. The incident, which took place on Friday night, resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including two police officers and two civilians. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia disclosed this information during a media briefing on Monday.

The deceased consist of Anti-Gang Unit Constable Thapelo Tlomatsane (29), Constable Sphiwe Sibeko (28), and two civilians. Police authorities have recovered firearms belonging to the two slain officers. Cachalia further announced that funeral services for the fallen police officials will be held over the weekend. The ministry spokesperson confirmed the identity of the person of interest as a known gang leader who faces six other charges and is currently on bail.
