Angela Barkhouse, an offshore recovery expert, testified before the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today regarding the $5.64 billion civil lawsuit filed by 1MDB against 29 offshore entities. The expert was appointed by multiple courts to investigate the entities used as intermediaries to siphon funds from the Malaysian state-owned investment fund.

Barkhouse, a partner at Kroll (Cayman) Ltd, began her investigation between July 2021 and May 2025. The offshore entities include Lucetta Investments Limited, PetroSaudi Oil Services Limited, TKIL Global Investments Limited, and others. Barkhouse stated that her analysis allows her to track the funds allegedly siphoned from 1MDB through a complex network of offshore entities.

The defense attorney for Najib Razak, Shafee Abdullah, confirmed that Jho Low, also known as Low Taek Jho, is among the individuals under scrutiny in relation to 1MDB. Barkhouse agreed, stating that Jho Low is central to the controversy and involved in the conspiracy to destroy 1MDB. While being asked if Low was the main individual behind the conspiracy, Barkhouse said she is not certain as the focus is on the beneficiaries of the allegedly siphoned funds.

The lawsuit, filed on May 7, 2021, also names former 1MDB executives Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, Casey Tang, and Terence Geh, as well as former 1MDB investment manager Vincent Beng, Radhi Mohamad, and Kelvin Tan. The case, led by counsel Lim Chee Wee for 1MDB, will continue in the courtroom of Judge Redzuan Idrus.
