Over a fifth of the electors in Telangana might get deleted in SIR

In Telangana, nearly a fifth of the electorate could be removed from the draft electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls process, which is set to conclude by August 10, 2026. This could result in around 22% of the total state electorate being excluded from the final rolls. The enumeration phase, which began on July 24, 2026, has resulted in 73,47,075 forms being classified as 'Uncollectable', accounting for nearly 22% of the total electorate.

This means that these forms were not returned by the electors. Additionally, 2,85,571 electors have been identified as either Absent, Shifted, and Dead, while 3,21,151 names have been flagged as Demographically Similar Entries, suggesting potential duplication. These categories will also be excluded from the draft electoral rolls.

As of the final day of enumeration, 2,64,73,616 forms - representing 78.26% of the total claimed - had been returned to Booth Level Officers. However, the return process has revealed 60,69,065 anomalies or discrepancies, approximately 23% of the submitted forms. All electors who did not return their forms or were found to have discrepancies will receive notices from the Electoral Registration Officers.

The hearings for resolving claims and objections will continue until October 15, 2026, with the final electoral rolls expected to be published on October 19, 2026. Adilabad recorded the highest proportion of anomalies at 28.49% of the total electorate, and 33% of the forms collected, followed by Wanaparthy with 27.83% anomalies and 32% of the forms collected.

The state capital, Hyderabad, had the highest rate of uncollectable forms at 41.09%, while Medchal Malkajgiri and Ranga Reddy districts had the most anomalies at 36.01% and 34.78% respectively, with 11.15% and 15.13% of the forms collected being anomalous.
