The post was accompanied by a photo of a group of people in prison uniforms and handcuffs. It was later discovered that the photo was actually of a prison in the Philippines. However, the post had already been shared many times, and some people were criticizing the government for being soft on crime, saying that foreigners were causing crime in Japan. The Ministry of Justice has now revealed that the actual number of prisoners in Japan as of the end of March this year was 6,965, of which 772, or around 11%, were foreigners. The Ministry says that it is investigating how the incorrect information was spread.
