Nine-year-old tahfiz pupil allegedly bullied, beaten by senior student

A nine-year-old boy at a tahfiz school in Kedah allegedly suffered physical abuse from a 15-year-old senior student, according to his father. The incident came to light when the father collected his son from the school for a holiday on July 30. Initially, the boy claimed the bruise on his face was due to a fall, but after being questioned multiple times, he admitted to being punched by a senior student the day before while wiping tables at the canteen.

The victim's father, Shamsul Azrin Man, noted that his son also reported being kicked in the back, leaving bruises. After learning about the incident, Shamsul Azrin contacted an ustaz at the tahfiz school, but the ustaz claimed he was unaware of the situation. Shamsul Azrin and his wife then filed a police report and took their son to the hospital for examination.

The medical examination found bruises but no serious injuries such as fractures, but the boy is now traumatized and unwilling to return to the school. Shamsul Azrin expressed his sadness as his son had wanted to study there to become an ustaz and was disappointed that the school dismissed him following the incident. The police are investigating the matter under Section 323 of the Penal Code, and the alleged perpetrator has been called in for questioning.

The school has suspended the student. Shamsul Azrin hopes the incident will serve as a lesson to all parties and emphasize the importance of prioritizing student safety and welfare.
