A fire broke out at a logistics center in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on Monday, prompting the government to issue a national mobilization order for firefighting resources. The fire started at around 3:40 p.m. on Monday at the CJ Logistics warehouse in Pyeongtaek, about 45 kilometers southwest of Seoul, and continued to burn as of 9 p.m. The warehouse stored 1.91 million liters of hazardous materials, including highly flammable liquids. As of 9 p.m., firefighters had been battling the blaze for about five and a half hours, but it had not been extinguished. The government issued a national mobilization order for firefighting resources at around 7:30 p.m., mobilizing firefighters and equipment from across the country. The Ministry of Interior and Safety said it had taken the measure to ensure a rapid response to the fire. Interior Minister Lee Sang-min ordered officials to do everything they could to prevent the fire from spreading and to minimize damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Pyeongtaek fire station received a report of the fire and dispatched firefighters to the scene. The fire station initially responded with 20 fire trucks, but the number was later increased. The government also dispatched an emergency response team. The fire is believed to have started in a storage area. The fire department upgraded the fire alert level to the highest level. The fire was still burning as of 9 p.m. The government and local authorities are working to contain the fire.
