New Delhi, August 10 - Former World Champion and Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra expressed his congratulations to athletes Basant Kumar Meghwal and Shahnavaz Khan for their historic medal wins at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2026 in Eugene, Oregon. Basant secured silver in the men's high jump, becoming India's first-ever World U20 high jump medalist with a personal-best clearance of 2.21 meters.

Shahnavaz earned bronze in the long jump, marking him as the first Indian man to achieve this feat at the event. The silver and bronze medals, along with Ashish Yadav's silver in the javelin throw on Friday, brought India's medal tally to three at the championships, matching the best-ever Indian performance at the World Athletics U20 Championships.
