National Deworming Day drive launched in Yadgir

The District Health and Family Welfare Department and District RCH Division officially launched the National Deworming Day (NDD) drive in Yadgir on Monday at a Government Lower Primary School in Ambedkar Chowk. The nationwide campaign, set to continue until August 17, aims to administer Albendazole tablets to all children and adolescents aged 1 to 19 in the district.

Mahesh Biradar, the District Health and Family Welfare Officer, urged the public to utilize the program to maintain children's health and prevent worm infestations. Albendazole tablets are being distributed at local anganwadis, with dosages varying by age group: half a tablet for children aged 1 to 2, and one full tablet for those aged 2 to 19.

The initiative extends coverage to all government, aided, and private schools, pre-university colleges, ITI and technical institutions, as well as out-of-school children of the specified age group, identified and administered tablets via anganwadis. District RCH Officer Mallappa K. set a target of reaching 5,13,173 children aged 1 to 19 in the district.

Taluk Health Officer Hanumanth Reddy emphasized the importance of hygiene alongside medication, advising children to maintain cleanliness, wash hands regularly before meals, and trim nails weekly. He added that administering the tablets twice a year can help prevent health complications and ensure proper physical growth.
