Nadi offers cheaper school uniforms for families, says education minister

The Nadi School Uniform initiative offers families more affordable school supplies, providing opportunities for alumni of the Nadi Sewing Skills programme to generate income using their learned skills. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek shared that the initiative stems from the Nadi Mahir Jahit programme, which gives participants - including housewives and single mothers - the chance to learn sewing skills.

Over 2,000 participants have been enrolled, and the programme is now in its fourth intake. Alumni can produce school attire at lower prices for the community. Nadi, under its Lifelong Learning pillar, offers various skills training programs to underprivileged and marginalised groups, covering areas like ICT literacy, sewing, cooking, and smart agriculture.

Fadhlina explained that the initiative's main value lies in the skills provided, allowing individuals to generate income and help other families save money. She emphasized that this is not a loan or "Pay Later" scheme, but rather a way to help parents manage expenses for multiple children's school supplies.
