N752bn Abuja-Kano highway to be completed by November – Umahi

The Federal Government has announced that the remaining sections of the Abuja-Kano highway will be completed by November, with the total cost estimated at N752 billion. Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed these details in Abuja on Monday, stating that over 80% of the costs for the two major sections managed by the current administration have already been paid.

The government is also installing solar-powered streetlights along the highway and deploying security measures known as "superhighway guards" to prevent vandalism, following incidents where sections of the concrete pavement were removed. The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway spans 375 kilometers in one direction, or 750 kilometers considering both carriageways.

The previous government's Julius Berger contractor completed 240 kilometers on each carriageway, totaling 480 kilometers. The current administration has completed 118 kilometers of the road with concrete pavement within 30 months, while work continues on the remaining 164 kilometers, or 82 kilometers on each carriageway.
