My brother was found dead – but police didn't realise for days that he had been shot

Brian Low, a 65-year-old former groundsman, was shot dead by his former colleague David Campbell on a remote path near Aberfeldy, Scotland. Police did not initially suspect murder, as Low's injuries appeared to be consistent with a fall. His body was discovered on February 17, 2024, with blood on his hands and face, and numerous pellet injuries.

It took another three months for Campbell, a retired gamekeeper, to be arrested and charged with murder. The delay in recognizing the crime as suspicious allowed opportunities for Campbell to gather evidence against Low. The investigation involved reviewing over 2,400 hours of CCTV footage from 56 cameras, speaking to 800 witnesses, and searching for forensic evidence.

Despite the extensive effort, the prosecution relied on circumstantial evidence due to potential missed forensic opportunities. Campbell had harbored a decades-long grudge against Low, stemming from a falling out at the Edradynate Estate. Campbell had even been removed from the estate in 2017 due to suspicion of bird poisoning incidents.

On the day of the murder, Campbell took steps to cover his tracks, such as covering a CCTV camera at his home. The trial revealed the depth of their animosity, with Campbell expressing hatred towards Low, even stating, "I hate him."
