Mutual trust drives my working relationship with Mahama – Opoku-Agyemang

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has explained that her close working relationship with President John Dramani Mahama is built on mutual trust, shared goals, and a common dedication to the government's development plans. In an interview on the KSM Show on August 7, 2026, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the government's principal focus on advancing the nation and addressing the needs of Ghanaians, rather than creating disagreements among leaders.

"We have a strategy. So what is there to fundamentally disagree about? To begin with, the issue is we are building the nation," she affirmed. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the pressures and responsibilities that come with the presidential position, stating that she views her role as supporting President Mahama in achieving the administration's goals.

"He will see more than we would see. He'll face more pressures than we would. So you try to defer as much as you can," she explained. Her confidence in Mahama stems from her understanding of him and the trust that has grown between them. "You know that he’s not going to do anything away from the agreed objectives. You know him enough, you trust him enough, and he demonstrates that enough," Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said, further elaborating on how this mutual trust continues to inform their collaborative approach.
