Meta launches new AI model as Zuckerberg champions open-weight push

Meta unveiled a new open-weight AI model, Muse Glimmer, on Monday, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg advocated for reduced U.S. restrictions on open-source AI systems. The compact Muse Glimmer is designed for agentic tasks and can run on consumer devices using a single graphics card. The social media giant's push for open-weight models stems from its new superintelligence team and the desire to compete with Chinese rivals, such as Moonshot's Kimi K3 and Alibaba's Qwen3.8-Max.

U.S. policy must adapt to remove barriers for domestic firms to lead in open-weight models, Zuckerberg argued, emphasizing the need to reduce additional compliance requirements for training data.
