Make the PDS Your Own: Customization and Metrics

In this latest release of the reference PDS, users can now customize the account management interface and OAuth sign-in screens with their own branding, colors, and a background image. To do this, a smaller set of variables is provided, all documented for easy implementation. Customizing the name and logo is as simple as setting the PDS_SERVICE_NAME variable, which overrides the default hostname.

Colors for buttons, links, and accents can be set using PDS_primary_color and four additional semantic color variables. The text color is automatically derived for optimal readability. A custom background image can be added to the auth screens, which automatically adjusts for dark mode. The OpenTelemetry support allows for tracing, metrics, and logs, providing valuable insights into the PDS's performance.

To enable this feature, set the PDS_OTEL_ENABLED variable to true. Additionally, the PDS now emits counters for important events, and a pre-built monitoring dashboard is available with a Prometheus, Grafana, and node_exporter stack. The default maximum blob size has been increased to 300MB, accommodating longer video uploads. This release also includes a fix for an issue with the connected apps list, ensuring all sessions are accurately displayed regardless of when they were last refreshed.
