Luv FM Kel-Charcoal Debate kicks off with thrilling wins for Wesley Girls and CHRISSEC

The inaugural round of the 8th edition Luv FM Kel-Charcoal High School Debate commenced on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Christian Service University in Kumasi. The first preliminary match pitted Kumasi Wesley Girls’ SHS against Mancell Girls’ SHS, debating the motion, "Ghana Education Service Should Reintroduce Corporal Punishment."

Kumasi Wesley Girls' SHS, advocating for the reintroduction, maintained that its absence has led to rising indiscipline and violence in senior high schools. Their principal speaker emphasized the need for firm discipline to curb such issues. Mancell Girls' SHS, however, staunchly opposed this motion, countering the arguments against them and presenting their case against corporal punishment in Ghana's educational system.

Despite a highly competitive match, Kumasi Wesley Girls' SHS edged out Mancell Girls' SHS by a margin of 6 points, securing 200 points to Mancell's 194. The second match of the day featured Otumfuo Osei Tutu II College debating against Christ the King SHS (CHRISSEC) on the topic, "Equality before the Law Is a Mirage in Ghana." Otumfuo Osei Tutu II College argued for the motion, while CHRISSEC opposed it.

Both schools delivered a compelling debate, with both sides making strong arguments to further their cause. Ultimately, CHRISSEC triumphed with a score of 214 points, narrowly beating Otumfuo Osei Tutu II College by 41 points, who scored 173. This result ends Otumfuo Osei Tutu II College's campaign for this season's competition, while CHRISSEC advances to the next round.
