Liverpool sign Araujo on loan from Barcelona

Liverpool have signed Uruguay centre-back Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with an option to buy. The 27-year-old, who can also play right-back, expressed excitement about joining the massive club and getting started. Araujo's move was seen as ideal for his career stage, as he needed a fresh challenge to regain his best form.

The defender, who has made over 200 appearances for Barca, winning three La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies, was granted a leave of absence in December due to mental health concerns following a Champions League red card. Araujo returned to training in January and made his first start since his break in the Copa del Rey quarter-final.

Liverpool, looking to strengthen their defense after Ibrahima Konate's departure to Real Madrid, signed Araujo to bolster their backline. The defender's recent performances for Barcelona have been limited due to injuries and a loss of concentration. Araujo is under contract at Barcelona until 2031 but will not be eligible for a UK work permit to play for Liverpool this season.
