Liverpool bolster injury-hit defence with loan signing of Barca's Araujo

Liverpool have bolstered their injury-ridden defence by signing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan, the club announced on Monday. The 27-year-old Argentine's arrival comes as Liverpool faces mounting defensive concerns, with injuries to Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet, and Virgil van Dijk impacting their backline. Araujo, capable of playing both centre back and right back, provides valuable cover in two areas where Liverpool is short of options.

The loan deal also includes an option to buy the player for around £47 million. Barcelona's captain and one of his captains, Araujo expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool, stating it was the ideal move for his career at this stage. The signing of Araujo comes after Liverpool lost top players such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, and is part of their efforts to revive their fortunes following the appointment of manager Andoni Iraola.
