Latest winner in our Research is Beautiful competition

The latest Research is Beautiful competition entry from Cancer Research UK has been selected as the winner for July. Keira Jolliffe, a TDL Placement Student at Cancer Research Horizons, created an impressive image of a cancer spheroid. The image showcases the core of the spheroid, which is crucial for drug discovery, particularly in understanding drug penetration and resistance tracking.

Keira's project aims to optimise a clearing protocol for imaging spheroids by removing light scattering lipids and balancing the refractive index. This process enables imaging of the core of small spheroids, which is essential for studying hypoxic and necrotic cores in research. To enter the competition, participants must email their photos, including a short caption, contact details, and an image of themselves, as JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 2000px.

A panel of CRUK staff reviews the submissions each month, and successful entrants are awarded £100 in book tokens. The winning image will be featured on Cancer News for Researchers and Cancer Research UK's LinkedIn platform. Keira always puts in significant effort to grasp the core essence of her subject, and her winning entry is a testament to her dedication. Congratulations, Keira!
