Landtagswahl: AfD in Sachsen-Anhalt laut Umfrage bei 42 Prozent – BSW legt zu

A new Insa survey commissioned by Bild predicts the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party will secure 42 percent of the vote in the upcoming Landtag election in Saxony-Anhalt, potentially winning the absolute majority needed to form a government. The survey also states that the Business for Social Responsibility (BSW) party could cross the 5 percent threshold and enter the Magdeburg Landtag for the first time, with leader Thomas Schulze seeing them as a crucial factor in preventing the next term of the CDU Minister-President.

Schulze claims, "Only if the BSW enters the Landtag can the next mandate of the CDU Minister-President be thwarted; the AfD alone cannot do it." Meanwhile, the CDU is predicted to receive 22 percent of the vote, with the left-wing party in third place at 13 percent. The Green and FDP parties are expected to fail to enter the Landtag with 4 percent each.

The SPD comes in sixth with 6 percent. With 41 percent of the vote, the CDU, left-wing party, and SPD would together have fewer votes than the AfD, which could secure a majority alone with the BSW's participation in the third round of voting. AfD candidate Ulrich Siegmund aims to lead the party to a full majority, stating, "If we achieve this target, we will govern even if all three smallest parties fall out of the parliament."

However, AfD leader Martin Reichardt emphasizes the need for a stable government in the region, stating, "We need a stable government in this land." The Insa survey was conducted among 1,000 people from July 31 to August 6.
