Tourist overcrowding tightens the noose in the Balearics: “They’re legislating against us”

The frustration of Balearic residents with tourist pressure is easy to verify on social media this summer. The hashtag with the expression "tourist overcrowding" yields multiple videos with episodes of extreme saturation. A young woman protests because the bus she needs to take to leave her job in Valldemossa, one of the most visited postcard villages in Mallorca, is besieged by tourists who push those who, like her, depend on it to get home after a working day.

A video taken by a tourist in which it can be observed, with some distress, that the pressure of visitors in the photographed cove of Sa Calobra does not allow for almost walking. Images of a Monday on Cala Gat beach, where it is impossible to stick another umbrella in the sand, with towels bunched up with almost no separation between people.

These are some recent examples that usually extend to other widely viralized areas: the well-known Caló des Moro, the Formentor lighthouse, the small Cala Deià, or any corner of the center of Palma, even on a cloudy day.
