Kuwait felicitates Pakistan on Makkah defence deal

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar received a phone call from Kuwait's Foreign Minister, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who congratulated him on the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. The Kuwaiti minister also discussed the regional situation, including occupied East Jerusalem, and bilateral relations with Pakistan. Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement, the Foreign Office announced.

Earlier, Dar spoke with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, and they discussed the regional situation, the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, and key sectors for cooperation and investment. The agreement, signed in Makkah on Friday, aims to enhance collective deterrence and empowers its signatory states to consider an attack on one of them as an attack on all.

Dar clarified that the pact did not replace any existing agreements and was purely defensive, consistent with the UN Charter's Article 51. He emphasized that the accord remains open to any regionally committed country willing to resolve differences through peaceful means.
