Ksh40M maternity wing to boost Nyaribo healthcare services

Construction of a new Ksh40 million maternity wing at Nyaribo Dispensary in Nyeri County has begun, marking a joint investment by the Ministry of Health and the County Government. The facility expansion aims to boost maternal and essential healthcare services for residents. Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, stating that the maternity wing will increase the dispensary's capacity and elevate it to a Level III health facility.

The investment is anticipated to improve access to maternal healthcare and reduce travel distances for residents seeking services. Dr. Oluga highlighted the National Government's commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Nyeri County and the Mt. Kenya region, including the development of a surgical centre and elevating Mwai Kibaki Hospital to a Level VI facility.

The government also plans to establish Mother and Child Health facilities at Naro Moru and Karatina Level IV Hospitals. Area Member of Parliament Duncan Mathenge praised the National Government's development agenda in Nyeri County, emphasizing the significant improvement in healthcare access these investments will bring. Nyaribo Dispensary's principal secretary, Dr. Caroline Karugu, expressed appreciation for the support extended to the facility, recalling her mother's role as its first treasurer.

Nyeri County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Joseph Kiragu, representing the Governor, thanked the National Government for its partnership and reaffirmed the county's commitment to staffing the facility with a competent health workforce and supplying essential health products and technologies upon completion.
