KL businessman’s kindness helps visually-impaired man see again

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Mohd Din Deli, a 65-year-old businessman from Malaysia, had been living in darkness for four years due to advanced cataracts in both eyes. The condition left him dependent on the kindness of strangers on the streets of Kuala Lumpur and forced him to give up his job as a security guard. His struggle took a turn when a local businessman, Datuk Seri Jeyenderan Ramasamy, noticed his plight near the Kortumalai Pillaiyar Temple.

Datuk Seri Jeyenderan began helping Mohd Din cross roads and offered him small amounts of money for daily needs.

Despite trying to regain his sight through medical examination, Mohd Din was told that cataract surgery would cost RM1,800, which he couldn't afford. He felt helpless and believed he would spend the rest of his life in darkness. However, Datuk Seri Jeyenderan arranged for further medical examinations and finally, on August 4, Mohd Din underwent successful cataract surgeries, restoring his vision.

Consultant ophthalmologist Dr Manjit Singh confirmed that Mohd Din's vision had severely deteriorated but could be restored through cataract surgery.

The restored sight gave new meaning to Mohd Din's Merdeka, allowing him to see, move independently, and live with dignity. Datuk Seri Jeyenderan also offered Mohd Din a job as a security guard at his company, enabling him to return to work. Mohd Din expressed his gratitude, saying the act of kindness had given him his sight and a chance to rebuild his life. He eagerly anticipated seeing the National Day fireworks, calling it a true "Merdeka" moment.
