Jonathan commissions 49.7km roads in Bauchi

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan recently commissioned 18 township roads totalling 49.7 kilometres in Bauchi city. In his remarks, Jonathan emphasized that no society can achieve sustainable growth without reliable roads, stating the investment in Bauchi reflected purposeful governance under Governor Bala Mohammed. He described the road network as a celebration of visionary leadership and responsible infrastructure development.

Jonathan, who made his third official visit to Bauchi, noted that the state has always held a special place in his heart. He urged residents to protect the new infrastructure, stating that roads are critical for development, connecting communities and facilitating commerce. Additionally, the former President broke ground on the construction and modernization of four major recreational parks in Bauchi, valued at N4.68 billion.

These parks, including Golden Jubilee Park and Suleiman Adamu Park, are expected to be completed within a year, with 70% of the payment already made to contractors. Jonathan praised the Bauchi State government for investing in recreational infrastructure, highlighting its importance in modern urban planning and its positive impact on public health, community strengthening, and economic opportunities.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under Jonathan's administration, commended the 18 roads for their strategic design to connect key residential areas, commercial centers, schools, and public facilities. The N58.7 billion project, constructed with durable pavement, drainage, culverts, road markings, and solar-powered street lighting, has already improved mobility and boosted economic activity, creating jobs.

The governor called on residents to safeguard these assets as part of the administration's urban renewal and environmental sustainability program.
