John Lewis Managing Director Quits Job After Less Than Three Years

Peter Ruis, the managing director of John Lewis, has resigned from his position after less than three years in charge of the British department store chain, citing the company's challenging trading conditions. He will be succeeded by Will Kernan, a non-executive board member. Kernan stated that John Lewis has significant room for growth and is optimistic about the future.

The decision to leave came shortly after John Lewis's chair, Jason Tarry, expressed concerns about the "really tough" trading conditions in an interview. Despite a previous bonus payout to staff, inflation due to the US-Israeli war on Iran has increased costs for retailers, putting pressure on shoppers. Ruis had previously led retailers such as Jigsaw and Anthropologie and had invested in the remaining 36 John Lewis department stores after closing 16 during the pandemic. He expressed pride in the company's progress and excitement for its future growth.
