Jharkhand Students Protest Live Updates: BJP leaders detained outside CM’s residence, students march towards assembly

On Monday night, police in Jharkhand resorted to lathicharge to disperse protesting job aspirants. This led to the BJP demanding a statewide bandh, alleging "police atrocities" and the use of lathis. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto faced a critical condition, his blood sugar plummeting dramatically. The assembly was adjourned as the students pushed towards its premises, with security forces evicting the agitators, as captured in a PTI video.

A few hours later, students, despite being met with lathis, batons, and tear gas, breached the assembly hall. Reports indicate both protesters and police were injured during the confrontation. The protests against alleged irregularities in state government job exams have gripped Jharkhand, with students demanding a CBI probe. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the use of force against students and urged the JMM-led government to address the issue promptly.

However, BJP MPs have criticized Gandhi for disrupting Parliament while staying silent on other state agitations. Meanwhile, the CID has arrested former Jharkhand Public Service Commission chief L Khiangte over alleged irregularities. The student-led march follows the Jharkhand government's decision to cancel three examinations, including the preliminary test for the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services, and their promise to involve the Enforcement Directorate in probing financial irregularities related to the exam.
