‘It was motivation’

Matt Jaworski, a defensive end for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, was in a serious car accident in March and has been in a hospital bed for several weeks, unsure if he would ever return to play. Despite his injuries, including scars on his face, Jaworski has been motivated by football to get back to his normal routine. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed him to the practice roster in May, and after making his pro debut at the end of the 2025 season, Jaworski started the regular-season finale at home against Montreal, impressing with a sack and a tackle.

Jaworski, a four-year starter at Fordham and the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in 2024, made his return to the Winnipeg team after a significant recovery period. Head coach Mike O’Shea praised Jaworski's work ethic and foundational habits that allowed him to come back to this level. With other defensive end spots occupied by Kydran Jenkins and David Reese, Jaworski may eventually find his way into the lineup.

Jaworski expressed his excitement for the upcoming game against the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday and shared that he feels great about his body and is ready to play.
