Innere Sicherheit: Günther: Bundeswehr im Inneren bei Drohnenabwehr einsetzen

Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President Daniel Günther (CDU) has advocated for allowing Bundeswehr involvement in domestic security amid the threat posed by drones. "Since it's difficult to distinguish between foreign and domestic threats when dealing with drones, we should consider amending the Grundgesetz," said Günther to Deutschlandfunk.

He firmly believes that the distinction between external and internal security under the federal and state governments is no longer relevant. Instead, Günther suggests that both federal and state competencies should be more closely coordinated in light of the current security threats. Günther stresses the importance of being equipped with the best technology, noting the professionalism displayed in the drone operations.

"It's hard to imagine that such a sophisticated operation could be carried out without the support of a state infrastructure," he added. The debate over drones has gained momentum in recent days following the discovery of a bomb-laden drone near a Ukrainian transport plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport on the evening of Tuesday. The subsequent lockdown of the airport led to a collision between a departing plane and what appeared to be a second drone.
