Hunter Henry ends limbo, signing a 2-year extension with Patriots through 2027

New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry has ended a period of uncertainty by signing a two-year contract extension with the team, keeping him in New England through the 2027 season. The agreement, reported by ESPN and the NFL Network, carries a base value of $16 million with incentives that could increase it to $20 million. This move comes after Henry was set to enter the final season of his previous three-year extension, which he signed in 2024.

Henry, who was signed as a free agent by the Patriots in 2021 after a four-year stint with the Los Angeles Chargers, has experienced a mixed bag of success during his time with the team. In his debut season, Henry was a key player in the Patriots' final playoff appearance, which ended in the wild-card round. However, the following three seasons saw the team struggle, with consecutive 4-13 finishes.

Last year, however, Henry played a pivotal role in the Patriots' Super Bowl run, helping quarterback Drake Maye secure second-place in MVP voting. Henry led the team with seven receiving touchdowns, and his 60 catches and 768 yards were second only to Stefon Diggs. The tight end also developed a close off-field relationship with Maye, a factor that influenced his decision to stay with the Patriots.
