House of the Dragon Season 3 finale: Who are the dragons at Tumbleton?

House of the Dragon concluded its third season with the Battle of Tumbleton, a significant event that involved both a military siege and the presence of several powerful dragons. The two dragons taking part in this battle were Daemon Targaryen's Caraxes, who broke through Tumbleton's gate, and Silverwing, ridden by the traitorous dragonseed Ulf the White.

Ulf had switched allegiance from Rhaenyra Targaryen to Team Green after being offered Driftmark by Ormund Hightower. Daeron Targaryen's small dragon Tessarion also appeared briefly but remained confined to his stable.

Following the battle, Caraxes pursued Silverwing over Tumbleton, while a larger dragon appeared in the scene, leading viewers to speculate that it could be Vhagar. However, the dragon was not Vhagar but Vermithor, also known as the Bronze Fury, ridden by Hugh Hammer. In the books, Hugh also betrayed Rhaenyra at the Battle of Tumbleton, and in the show, he showed up in a different way, chasing his estranged wife Kat on his dragon.

Vermithor and Silverwing were a bonded pair, and Vermithor was more likely to come to Silverwing's defense rather than assisting Caraxes in taking her down. It is probable that all three dragons survived the Battle of Tumbleton, but given Hugh's grief over Kat's death and the strong bond between Vermithor and Silverwing, a potential side change might occur in the upcoming conflict.
