‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Ending Explained: Battle, Betrayal and a Big Death

The third season of "House of the Dragon" concluded with a flurry of battles, betrayals, and deaths. The show centered around the ongoing Dance of the Dragons, as the armies of Team Black and Team Green clashed. Ormund's plans finally came to fruition when Daemon, Roddy the Ruin, and a large force of Rhaenyra's armies arrived to end Daeron the Daring's threat. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra's paranoia grew as news surfaced that her brother Aegon was alive and had his own dragon, Sunfyre.

Rhaenyra's paranoia led her to seek validation of her claim to the Iron Throne. She believed in the prophecy of "A Song of Ice and Fire," which suggested that her dragon and her numerical superiority were necessary to survive the coming darkness. In a shocking turn of events, she declared herself the Prince That Was Promised, a mythical savior of the world. This proclamation alienated her from the people and led to her being seen as despotic and unpopular.

As the Battle of Tumbleton approached, the citizens grew anxious. Rhaenyra, dressed for battle, entered the sept and was reprimanded for her weapons. Citizens outside demanded to know the truth of Aegon's survival. Rhaenyra presented her case, but the people were convinced of her claims and her new leadership. Meanwhile, Ulf, once loyal to Rhaenyra, betrayed her after the battle began, turning the dragonriders against her forces.

The ensuing battle was brutal, with Ormund and Roddy the Ruin facing off atop the battlements. Ormund managed to defeat Roddy, but his victory was short-lived as betrayal from within led to his downfall.
