Hero City officer's heartwarming reunion with newborn

In Cape Town, a Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) duo, Zibula Sitemele and Yonela Sishuba, recently reunited with a newborn they helped deliver. On Sunday, July 26, 2026, the officers were patrolling in Manenberg when they were called to assist in a labor. With the help of an Emergency Medical Services team, they aided Kaylee Luyt in welcoming her son, Mahier.

According to City Safety and Security chief JP Smith, relatives flagged down the duo when Mahier arrived just after midnight on Monday, July 27, weighing 2.8kg. The newborn, along with his parents Yazeer Losper and Kaylee, visited Officer Sitemele at the City's offices last week. Sitemele expressed gratitude, stating, "The uncle said, there's a lady that is delivering a baby inside the house.

And then we went in and then we assisted. The baby was delivered healthy and transported to hospital." Smith praised the officers for their dedication, noting, "We deal with a lot, but God is assisting us." Additionally, Smith commended officers Davedene Pieterse and Thallin Prinsloo for rescuing a three-month-old baby from a father in Delft.

On July 19, shortly after 11pm, the officers noticed the man, who appeared intoxicated and inadequately dressed, not caring for the child. They took the infant into their care and handed him over to the police station, which was then reported to the Department of Social Development.
